About Mersey Care NHS Trust

Mersey Care NHS Trust was established on 1 April 2001 to provide specialist mental health and learning disability services for the people of Liverpool, Sefton, and Kirkby.

This is one of only three trusts of its kind in the country providing the entire range of specialist mental health services. The trust has a wider role too, offering medium secure services for Merseyside and Cheshire, and high secure services for England and Wales.

It employs more than 4,500 staff and operates services from 33 sites.

The Project

INS Sudlows was awarded the Project to design and install the entire network infrastructure across the main trust sites. This involved the removal of all redundant and legacy wiring, to be replaced in a multiphase roll-out.

As the Trust contains a number of Secure Unit Environments, priority was given to both security issues and consideration of the patients during installation work.

Chris Ransome, Project Manager for INS Sudlows says;

"Without a good client relationship and support of the staff on-site, any installation would be difficult to undertake. This is where sound project management and experienced site engineers are invaluable."

The Installation

Ashworth Hospital was a typical example of the challenging environment. Here the buildings including, the high security areas, have been totally recabled in Molex Premise Networks Cat5e (with a total of over 2,500 throughout the Trust) with an additional Blown Fibre multimode and singlemode connectivity solution deployed to all buildings to provide both future proofing and overall network resilience.

This work was carried out within the agreed timescales, budgets and with the full co-operation of the Mersey Care staff; all of which ensured that the project ran smoothly.

To Conclude

INS Sudlows have clearly demonstrated added value and this is endorsed by John Stonier on behalf of Mersey Care NHS Trust:

"INS Sudlows have significantly raised the benchmark for infrastructure cabling on our sites to a new level of excellence. Their knowledge, expertise, experience, and genuine desire to assist at all times have been a huge benefit to our organisation. Their service is highly recommended".

John Stonier (Telecomms Manager - Mersey Care NHS Trust)
