GCHQ Cheltenham

New Accommodation Project - NAP
Project Description
INS Sudlows has successfully completed a major
infrastructure installation at GCHQ. INS Sudlows were selected by
BT/Unisys as one of 3 service partners undertaking the
extensive task of providing voice and data infrastructure to this
vitally important national asset.
Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) is
an intelligence and security organisation, whose primary customers
are the Ministry Of Defence, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office
and law enforcement authorities. Established in 1919 and initially
based in London, its early role was to gather signals intelligence
and crack enemy cypher codes. It now works alongside other UK intelligence
agencies to provide HM government with vital intelligence, which
helps to combat threats such as global terrorism and organised crime.
Plans for the new purpose-built headquarters for GCHQ were approved
by the Government in 2000. The main contactor awarded the tender
was Carillion PLC, and is the largest PFI (Private Finance
Initiative) project, to date.
BT/Unisys appointed INS Sudlows as one
of its key partners to undertake this sensitive and important work.
As a Service Partner to BT/Unisys, INS Sudlows has a proven
track record for quality of workmanship, project management and
administration. INS Sudlows has been a service partner of BT/Unisys
for over 5 years.
The scale of the project resulted in INS Sudlows
establishing a permanent base in Cheltenham to ensure that, at all
times, there were 2 project managers and a team of up to 35 security
cleared engineers working across the site.
The flexibility built into the project by our experienced
project managers, enabled variations to the original contract, and
additional cabling requirements, to be executed.
Timetable
The project timetable demanded significant flexibility
in working hour and the scheduling of labour. Working closely with
BT/Unisys, INS Sudlows was able to ensure that schedules
were met.
Customer Satisfaction
Customer satisfaction and meeting the tight schedules
demanded by this project were BT/Unisys’ and in turn
INS Sudlows’ overriding priority.
INS Sudlows is proud to be associated with this
successful project.
